Pat has spent more than thirty years exploring the beauty
and wildness of the outer coast of SE Alaska. She and her
husband have spent their summers trolling commercially
for salmon. They raised their two daughters on the boat,
teaching them to count lowering salmon into the hold.
Howard and Pat built their home on an island out side
Sitka and home-schooled their children through the eight grade
both on and off the boat.Later Pat stretched the definition of "commuter mom" to a higher level running the girls to school and ballet by boat. Now that the daughters are grown, and Pat has retired from fishing to take a job at the Sitka Pioneer Home, she is able to devote more of her time to painting.
Pat studied art at Western Washington University and has taken and facilitated numerous watercolor workshops in
Sitka and enjoyed a 3 week watercolor tour through China. She continues to spend time enjoying the space between
the ocean and the mountains and attempts to share that special place in her art work.
